The Commerce Commission is taking legal action against Mobil New Zealand's head office over wholesale pricing methods

The Commerce Commission is taking legal action against Mobil New Zealand's head office over wholesale pricing methods

It's filing proceedings in the High Court, alleging two ongoing breaches of the Fuel Industry Act - one starting in November 2021, and the other starting in August 2022.

The commission claims the wholesale price methods being used to calculate what petrol stations are charged, aren't transparent enough.

It says petrol stations can't see, and question what they're charged.

The commission says Mobil New Zealand's head office has been able to increase wholesale prices with minimal pushback, which in turn puts pressure on retail prices.
