Selma Blair feels "very, very lucky" to have been in remission from Multiple Sclerosis for a "couple of years"

The Cruel Intentions star was diagnosed with the auto-immune condition - which affects the central nervous system - in 2018 but after undergoing chemotherapy and stem cell treatment, she hasn't suffered a relapse for some time.

She told Stellar magazine of being in remission: "That, of course, means the world to me that I'm not, at this moment, accumulating more damage in my brain. I have also made a lot of strides with the vibe of neuroplasticity.

"I'm very, very lucky. Everyone's experience with MS is different."

The 53-year-old actress is keen to speak about the condition as much as possible in order to raise awareness.

She said: "I think I do have a certain place [to speak publicly]. My big mouth likes to see what I can do about stigma."

And now, Selma can't wait to get back to work.

She teased: "There are some [roles] coming up that I never saw coming. I am excited about getting back into movies."

The Sweetest Thing actress also recalled her excitement when she first moved to Los Angeles for her career.

She said: "I loved LA in the late '90s.

"Because I really did have a regular life [before that] in a prep school, in suburban Detroit.

"I remember driving on the 101 [freeway in LA] to my job on the Warner Bros lot and really having that Jerry Maguire moment, with the window down. 'I'm in a show! I can't believe it. I can't believe it.'

"I'll never take it for granted."

Earlier this year, Selma revealed that she was "truly in remission" from multiple sclerosis, having not relapsed since 2021.

Speaking to People magazine, she shared: "I am doing amazingly well. I've been feeling great for about a year. But I am finally well enough to really, genuinely ... I always try and feel my best, but now that I actually have stamina and energy and getting out and going out isn't so scary."

Selma's improving health has also allowed the actress to start making plans for her future.

She said: "It's funny, I haven't spent enough time having dreams. And now it's like, 'What are my dreams?'

"I think maybe since the diagnosis. You're just tired all the time. I spent so much of my life so tired from being unwell that I think I just was trying to get through the day. And now it's like, wait, I realise I don't know what my goals are."
