A meat processing company's been fined more than 200-thousand dollars after a worker suffered burns to nearly all his body in 2018

A meat processing company's been fined more than 200-thousand dollars after a worker suffered burns to nearly all his body in 2018

WorkSafe has ruled Affco New Zealand failed to keep the worker safe at its Moerewa plant.

The worker suffered severe burns to nearly 75 percent of his body after opening a boiler door, when excess coal combusted, sending flames into the room.

The man was in an induced coma for five weeks and still can't return to work - after multiple surgeries and skin grafts.

Affco's been fined 230-thousand dollars, and ordered to pay the victim 64-thousand dollars.
