Animal rights organisation SAFE has launched a petition demanding an end to the worst aspects of rodeo

Animal rights organisation SAFE has launched a petition demanding an end to the worst aspects of rodeo

It comes as two rodeo take place in New Zealand today, the Mad Bull rodeo in Otago and the WFL Bull Ride in Martinborough.

SAFE's petition calls for the use of bucking straps, electric prods, tail twisting and spurs to be made illegal.

It also wants an end to animal wrestling, team roping and the use of calves at rodeo events.

SAFE spokesperson Will Appelbe says rodeos are inconsistent with Kiwi values, and action to end them is 'long overdue'.
