The Climate Change Commission's recommended critical tweaks to plans for carbon-charging farmers

The Climate Change Commission's recommended critical tweaks to plans for carbon-charging farmers

The agriculture sector has until 2025 to implement emissions pricing - or it will be roped into the Emissions Trading Scheme.

Industry leaders presented their plan to Parliament last month -- which would involve individual farmers paying for their gases.

The Commission has recommended a more basic version of their proposal, least it be too complex to introduce on time.

Chair Rod Carr has also rejected proposed discounts for growing vegetation not eligible under the ETS.

He says they also believe importers or manufacturers of synthetic fertilisers should be charged - rather than the farmer.
