Felicity Jones was "embarrassed" by her family's accent growing up

Although the 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' actress grew up in Birmingham, she never adopted a strong Brummie accent and has confessed she didn't like not sounding like everyone else

Asked if she ever had a Brummie accent, she told Radio Times magazine: "I actually didn't!

"I grew up speaking RP (received pronunciation) and I remember being really embarrassed and thinking, 'Why can't we talk like everyone else?'

"My parents didn't have strong accents particularly, and my late uncle was a theatre actor and he didn't have a very strong accent.

"So, I guess it's all shaped by what you hear growing up."

Elsewhere, the 41-year-old actress - who has a son born in 2020 and a daughter born in 2022 with her director husband Charles Guard - admits that since becoming a mother, she only takes on roles that "really count".

She said: "I think having a family, there's far more pressure on your time. So, it has to really count.

"I think, well, who's going to see this? Is it just going to be another thing pumped out that no one cares about? What's the point in doing that?"

The 'Brutalist' star previously admitted she doesn't want her children to follow in her acting footsteps.

Speaking after the birth of her first child, she told You magazine in 2020: "I'm hoping he'll go into the sciences."

Meanwhile, Felicity doesn't use social media because she has seen how "destructive" it can be, and she enjoys retaining a sense of "mystery" about herself.

She explained: "It's just not something that I want to do. I know friends who wake up in the middle of the night and start reading messages and I think that is quite destructive. Also, I love it when I don't know everything about an actor, and there's a little bit of mystery to them."
