The Defence Force's bomb disposal unit was called after a man was found with firearms, ammunition, and an "item of concern" in Hamilton yesterday

The Defence Force's bomb disposal unit was called after a man was found with firearms, ammunition, and an "item of concern" in Hamilton yesterday

Police were called to a Massey Street address, following reports of a man with a firearm, before driving away.

Officers followed the suspected car before taking the man into custody, with an armed traffic stop on Cambridge Road.

A vehicle search revealed two firearms and ammunition.

At the Hamilton Central Police Station, staff found an item of concern among the man's property, and called in the NZDF to make it safe.

A 29-year-old man appeared in Hamilton District Court today, on multiple charges and will reappear on Tuesday.
