    What we know about Michelle Trachtenberg's death

    The New York Medical Examiner is investigating the death of actor Michelle Trachtenberg.


    Actor Michelle Trachtenberg, who is known for her roles in Gossip Girl and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has died at 39.

    The New York Medical Examiner is investigating her death — here's what we know. 

    What happened to Michelle Trachtenberg?

    Trachtenberg was found "unresponsive" in her luxury apartment in New York.

    Police responded to a 911 call shortly after 8am local time, where officers found her, according to an NYPD statement.

    Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

    Her public relations team confirmed her death in a statement released Wednesday.

    "It is with great sadness to confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away," they wrote.

    "The family requests privacy for their loss. There are no further details at this time."

    What did Michelle Trachtenberg die from?

    The cause of Trachtenberg's death is not known.

    No foul play is suspected, and the New York Medical Examiner is investigating her death.

    Did Michelle Trachtenberg have a liver transplant?

    US outlet ABC has reported Trachtenberg recently underwent a liver transplant and may have been experiencing complications, citing anonymous police sources.

    The Australian ABC has not been able to verify the report and the actor never publicly shared any health conditions.

    Who was Michelle Trachtenberg?

    Trachtenberg was an actor best known for her roles in teen dramas during the 2000s.

    She got her start in Hollywood when she was three years old, appearing in commercials.

    She rose to prominence with a recurring role in the Nickelodeon series The Adventures of Pete & Pete in 1994.

    At 10 years of age, she landed her first title role in the 1996 movie Harriet the Spy.

    She had roles in several Nickelodeon productions, leading up to her being cast in the cult classic EuroTrip in 2004.

    Trachtenberg played Dawn Summers in the supernatural drama Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 2000 and Georgina Sparks on the CW television series Gossip Girl in 2007.

    Some of her other roles include television films Killing Kennedy, Sister Cities, and the science-fiction film The Scribbler.

    She also appeared in music videos from emo-rock band Fall Out Boy for their song This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race, and the Joaquin Phoenix-directed music video for Tired of Being Sorry by Ringside.
