A Maori cancer expert group is accusing the Government of intentional, institutionalised racism

A Maori cancer expert group is accusing the Government of intentional, institutionalised racism

It's lowering free bowel screening eligibility to 58, using funds set aside by the last Government for targeting Maori and Pasifika - who die disproportionately from the disease.

This Government predicts this plan will save 176 more lives over 25 years - than the earlier plan.

But Hei Ahuru Mowai's Doctor George Laking says this won't reach Maori and Pasifika communities who experience bowel cancer younger.

Laking says it's a selective response to evidence, and the age needs to be lowered for their community.
