His Red Bull will start this afternoon's sprint race from last on the grid, after his final lap time in the opening qualifying session was deleted due to track infringements.
Lawson is confident he can get his campaign back on track.
Ferrari's Sir Lewis Hamilton is on pole, alongside Lawson's teammate Max Verstappen in the front row.
The sprint race gets under way at 4pm.
