Timothée Chalamet was disappointed not to win the Best Actor Oscar this year

The 29-year-old actor was nominated for his work as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown but lost out at ceremony to The Brutalist star Adrien Brody, and he has candidly admitted that he was upset to miss out on an Academy Award statuette.

Timothee - who was nominated for the same honour in 2017 for Call Me By Your Name but lost to Darkest Hour actor Gary Oldman - told America's Vogue magazine: "If there's five people at an awards show, and four people go home losing you don't think those four people are at the restaurant like, 'Damn, we didn't win'?'

"I've been around some deeply generous, no-ego actors, and maybe some of them are going, 'That was fun.' But I know for a fact a lot of them are going, 'F***'

"People can call me a try-hard, and they can say whatever the f***. But I'm the one actually doing it here."

While he didn't win the Academy Award, Timothee did receive the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) honour for Best Leading Actor for his work on the movie and admitted during his acceptance speech he wants to be "one of the greats".

He said on stage: "I know the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort that went into this role and how much it means to me, but the truth is, this was five-and-a-half years of my life, I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist, Mr. Bob Dylan, a true American hero. It was the honour of a lifetime, playing him...

"I can't downplay the significance of this award because it means the most to me and I know it is a subjective business but the truth is I'm really in pursuit of greatness.

"I know people don't usually talk like that but I want to be one of the greats, I'm inspired by the greats that are here tonight.

"I'm as inspired by Daniel Day Lewis, Marlon Brando, Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps, and I wanna be up there so I'm deeply grateful.

"This doesn't signify that, but it' a little more fuel, a little more ammo to keep going, so thank you so much."
