Sir Paul McCartney has supported Sir Elton John through his health struggles

The 78-year-old star contracted an eye infection while in France in the summer of 2024, which left him blind in his right eye, but Elton has received lots of support from his showbiz pals, including Paul and members of the Rolling Stones.

Speaking to Variety, Elton shared: "Paul McCartney FaceTimes me to see how I'm doing. It's really beautiful."

Elton admitted that having the support of people like Paul and Sir Mick Jagger "makes [his] day".

He said: "The love I've received from him and from Pete Townshend and Mick Jagger and people like that have been amazing. Or you get an email from Keith Richards saying, 'Hello, darling, how you doing? You know we love you,' and that's it, but it just makes my day."

Elton retired from touring in 2023, but he still enjoys performing the occasional gig.

The award-winning star explained: "I've still been able to play. I'm still singing. We did the Singapore Grand Prix the other day with the band, which was wonderful."

Elton announced his plan to retire from touring back in 2018, and he revealed at the time that he was taking the decision in order to prioritise his family life.

The chart-topping star explained that he planned to "end with a big tour" and then "spend the rest of [his] life" with his kids.

Elton - who has Zachary, 14, and Elijah, 12, with his husband David Furnish - told the Guardian newspaper at the time: "We had taken them around everywhere when they were little, because they were very portable.

"But then they weren't so portable and we had to have a big discussion about what I wanted to do with my life, the children and my career. And I said I'd like to end with a big tour and spend the rest of my life with my children."
