West Indies skipper Roston Chase is explaining why they abandoned their bid for a history making chase in the drawn first cricket test against New Zealand in Christchurch

West Indies skipper Roston Chase is explaining why they abandoned their bid for a history making chase in the drawn first cricket test against New Zealand in Christchurch

The tourists finished on 457 for six in pursuit of 531 - the current best fourth innings mark for victory is 418 by their compatriots versus Australia at Antigua in 2003.

Chase says continue to pursue the target eventually came with too much risk.

The total is the second highest in the fourth innings of a match.

England scored 654 for five during the 10-day test against South Africa at Durban in 1939, which ended when their boat had to leave.
