Auckland Police say a man absconded on foot last night - after being caught driving a moped at speed without headlights

Auckland Police say a man absconded on foot last night - after being caught driving a moped at speed without headlights

Events unfolded after Police spotted the moped in Mount Albert just after midnight.

Despite failing to stop on signal, the rider wasn't pursued until Police saw him abandon the moped near Owairaka Park.

He ran off but was caught by another unit.

A 35-year-old man's been charged with failing to stop for Police and driving unlicensed despite a prohibition.
