Michael Bolton feels "deeply grateful" to be surrounded by family amid his brain cancer battle

The 72-year-old singer - who has daughters Isa, 50, Holly, 48, and 46-year-old Taryn with his ex-wife Maureen McGuire as well as six grandchildren - was diagnosed with glioblastoma in late 2023 and underwent immediate surgery and admitted having his girls nearby has meant "more than [he] could ever put into words.

He told AARP.org via email: "My daughters have been constant in a way that grounds me. On the harder days, they help me stay centered; on the lighter ones, they bring out the laughter that makes everything feel possible again.

"They remind me of who I am and what's worth fighting for.

"I'm feeling deeply grateful. This past year has tested me in ways I never imagined, but it's also made me more aware of the moments that fill life with meaning: having meals with my family, hearing my grandkids laugh, stepping outside on a beautiful day and just taking it in."

Michael's youngest daughter and her children live with the How Am I Supposed to Live Without You singer in Connecticut, while Isa lives nearby and Holly visits regularly in California, and they all help to care for their father in different ways.

Isa told AARP.org: "We each help to honour him in various ways. One of us, for instance, is very fastidious in making sure that all of the daily care... The Is are dotted and the Ts are crossed.

"One of us is worrying more about companionship and his spirits and what type of mood he's in.

"And then we're all kind of collectively working on managing various business and professional aspects that need to be taken care of day to day."

Isa admitted "caregiver fatigue is a unique experience," and life is full of ups and downs.

She said: "We do have great days, and we have some tough days. The pressure, the burden, is overwhelming sometimes."

Michael's speech, mobility and short-term memory have been affected by his chemotherapy and radiation treatments and while Isa noted he has "a lot of challenges", she added: "He is very strong. His mobility and cognition have been terrific."

The To Love Somebody singer finished his radiation and chemotherapy treatments in October 2024 but undergoes MRIs every two months to ensure the tumour has not returned because glioblastoma has a recurrence rate of around 90 percent.
