Amy Poehler won the first ever Golden Globe award for podcasting on Sunday

The former Saturday Night Live star's Good Hang, in which she chats with fellow comedians, friends and famous faces, scooped the inaugural Best Podcast prize ahead of Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy, SmartLess from her ex-husband Will Arnett and Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes, NPR's Up First, and The Mel Robbins Podcast.

Speaking on stage at Los Angeles' Beverly Hilton hotel, she quipped: "This is exactly how I pictured it, Snoop [Dogg] giving me the award. I don't know about award shows, but when they get it right, it makes sense.

"I know that I am new to this game. I have great respect for this form.

"I have great respect for everyone I am nominated with. I am big fans of all of you - except for NPR: just a bunch of celebs phoning it in. Try harder."

Amy noted her podcast attempts to make a "rough and unkind world filled with a little bit more love and laughter, laughing with people and not at them."

The new category was announced in March as a "way to recognise new forms of storytelling,"

Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne previously explained in a statement: "Podcasts have emerged as a profound medium for sharing narratives and building communities across global borders and generations.

"By celebrating achievements in both audio and visual podcasts, we aim to honour our heritage categories while making room for new voices and formats to be heard."

Will had previously tipped Amy to win the award ahead of his own podcast.

Asked if he had an acceptance speech ready if SmartLess, wins, he joked to People that he would "leave the speech writing" to co-host Sean .

He quipped: "[Sean has] actually written all the speeches for all the nominees for every category. He's written Amy's acceptance speech already."
