An Orange Heavy Rain Warning applies today and tomorrow for Coromandel and Bay of Plenty from Opotiki westwards, including Rotorua; and Gisborne - and watches for most of the North Island.
A Hawke's Bay motor camp is being evacuated near Hastings - close to the famous Cape Kidnappers cliffs - because of the rick of slips.
MetService News head, Heather Keats , says more warnings are likely.
She says it's quite a deep low, with strong winds and heavy rain associated with it, however there's still a lot of uncertainty.
