A call to be up-front with paramedics about drinking and drug use

A call to be up-front with paramedics about drinking and drug use

This year's first 48 hours have been quieter than normal for ambulance teams - with fewer call-outs directly linked to drugs and alcohol.

But Hato Hone St John Ambulance Operations Deputy Head, Dan Ohs , says they're seeing more problems caused by recreational drugs, particularly across Auckland.

He says patients should tell ambulance crews about anything they've taken, so they can give the right care.

Ohs says it's health information they need to know about, to provide the best treatment and health referral.
