Zayn Malik has admitted Gigi Hadid "gave [him] s***" after being an overly-generous tooth fairy to their daughter

The Pillow Talk singer is very happy to share his wealth with his loved ones so he didn't see a problem with leaving $500 under five-year-old Khai's pillow when her first gnasher fell out, but his former partner wasn't so keen.

Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Zayn admitted: "I think I gave her a bit too much money from the Tooth Fairy."

He clarified it was $500 when asked and then added: "It's her first tooth! Her mom gave me s*** for it, but at the end of the day, I work my a** off and I should be able to give my kid what I want to give her."

Zayn is "going to frame" the tooth but admitted he will be less generous when Khai loses another.

He joked: "She gets $5. The Tooth Fairy's gone broke now, so I'm not giving you anything else."

The former One Direction singer admitted it means "everything" that he can be more than generous financially towards his daughter because of the hardships he endured as a child, and he acknowledged Khai doesn't have a normal upbringing because of her famous parents.

He added: "But she's my first kid. People in general look at it a certain type of way. But [growing up], I was lucky if I got anything for my teeth. I've worked really hard for everything that I've earned, so I don't feel like I should have to answer to those things.

"I'm raising her in an environment that isn't the same as everybody's.

"Her dad is a pop star. Her mom is a model, and certain things that she does in life might not always reflect what other people's understanding of reality is."

Elsewhere in the interview, Zayn, 33, admitted he was never "in love" with Gigi, 30, during their five-year on/off romance.

He said: "To be fair, just to have this on the record, I will always love G, because she is the reason my child is on this Earth and I have the utmost respect for her.

"I will always love her, but I don't know if I was in love with her.

"I do love her a crazy amount, but no, I don't think I was in love with her at that point.

"Otherwise I would have been a better version of myself."

At the time, the Vibez did believe he had genuine feelings for Gigi - who is in a relationship with Bradley Cooper - but now he doesn't think they ran as deeply as he thought.

He added: "My understanding of love is always developing. At that moment in time, I might have thought it was love, but as I got older I realized maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was lust. Maybe it was this, maybe it was that. I don't feel like it was love."
