Joshua Jackson painted a "rainbow room" for his daughter to cheer her up after they lost their home in the California wildfires

The actor, 46, has admitted four-year-old Juno - from his marriage to Jodie Turner-Smith - spent months asking him to decorate her room in bright colours but he didn't get around to it before the house burned down so he's made it up to her by painting a room in their new rented accommodation

In a post on Instagram, he shared a picture of his girl's new room and explained: "Last month I posted a story about our house burning down. First I want to say thank you to everyone who reached out and kept reaching out, it means so much during these times.

"I also wanted to put an update here, something a little more positive. For months before the fire JR [Juno] was on me to paint a rainbow room. I was working and I couldn't quite figure out where to do it and yadda yadda ...

"I didn't do it. Which I now really regret. So what you are seeing here is the newly unveiled rainbow room (huge thanks to my landlords for not batting an eye when I asked them if I could paint their walls 'rainbow').

"Because while I can't give her a new house(yet) we can certainly have some rainbows along the way. We're doing alright ... to be continued."

Joshua also recounted a conversation between him and his daughter about her specifications for her rainbow room, writing: "JR: Daddy when we build the new house we should have a rainbow room. Daddy: I got you kiddo ... JR: With a blue sky roof. Daddy: I got you ki... [sic]

"JR: And pink. There needs to be pink. Daddy: ... Yes ma'am."

It comes after the former 'Dawson's Creek' star admitted he's having a "hard" time rebuilding his $2m home in Topanga Canyon after the wildfires.

He told US TV show 'Extra': "I'm just at the very beginning of it, so it is going to be a process, but I have my plans in with L.A. County and hopefully they turn those around pretty quickly and we can get into the building phase.

"It's hard, and a lot of people are going through it and everybody's going through it in their own way.

"For me, there was no question of rebuilding, and I want to build a place for me and my daughter that will still, quick enough that it will still be her childhood home, so I'm just on it, trying to push my way through."
