Michael J Fox and his wife Tracy Pollan advised their son Sam Fox and his wife Molly Milstein to laugh at something daily if they want a long-and-happy marriage

The actors said humour was the secret to their 37-year marriage, and they hope it will work for their eldest child and daughter-in-law.

Tracy - who met Michael on the NBC sitcom Family Ties in 1985 - told People: "The one thing actually that I would say that's the most important thing is find something to laugh about together every day, if you can."

Speaking about laughter being the secret to her and Michael's relationship, Tracy added: "You know what, we just take it one day at a time and it's worked."

Sam, 36, and Molly quietly tied the knot in an intimate ceremony held in New York City in October, which the smitten couple announced in an Instagram post on November 4.

Captioning a series of photos from their special day, Molly wrote: "A month before."

Sam's younger sisters, 30-year-old twins Aquinnah and Schuyler, and Esme, 24, and mom Tracy were seen in the photographs, but dad Michael was not.

Sam and Molly's big day came over a year since they announced their engagement in February 2024 by posting a cozy selfie in a snowy setting in South Woodstock, Vermont, on Instagram.

Michael and Tracy met in 1985 when they were cast as each other's love interests - Alex P. Keaton and Ellen Reed, respectively - on Family Ties, but they were friends at this point.

However, sparks flew when they were reunited on-screen in the 1988 drama-comedy movie Bright Lights, Big City, and they got engaged within months.

They tied the knot in 1988.

The Back to the Future legend said marrying Tracy was the best thing that has ever happened to him.

In 2024, Michael told People: "We just make it up as we go along. It's interesting, being married for 35 years. Yeah. I mean, the joke is you say I've been married 35 years, and it's [been] the best 35 years of my life, so think about that one for a second.

"But it's great. It's great having a partner and having someone that knows you in a [certain] way when everyone in the world thinks they know you. [Only] one person actually knows you."
