No mincing of words from an Auckland High Court judge, while sentencing Hakyung Lee to life behind bars for murdering her children

No mincing of words from an Auckland High Court judge, while sentencing Hakyung Lee to life behind bars for murdering her children

The bodies of eight-year-old Yuna and six-year-old Minu were found in suitcases in 2022, four years after she killed them.

It was claimed during the trial the death of Lee's husband in 2017 affected her mental health.

But Justice Venning's dismissed this, giving her 17 years non-parole.

He says she killed her kids to avoid the burden of parenting alone, and changing her name earlier that day was no coincidence.
