Wet weather's predicted to storm through the North Island heading in to New Years, hitting the eastern facing coasts hardest

From tomorrow, Metservice is issuing a heavy rain warning for the Coromandel, Gisborne, and Hawke's Bay, with the heaviest rainfall expected north of Tologa Bay .

A heavy rain watch will also be in place for The Bay of Plenty, Rotorua, the Tararua District and Wairarapa.

Meteorologist John Law, says winds and downpours will move southwards throughout the coming days.

He says conditions are forecasted to last until the end of year.
