    Many retailers seem to be treading water, as consumers anxious about job security hold off on the nice-to-haves


    EB Games has confirmed the closure of its stores, and Auckland's Yoyoso , Accecco and Miniso chains are also the latest to face potential closure.

    Latest NZIER research shows sales remain weak and profit margins are continuing to shrink.

    Retail NZ Chief Executive Carolyn Young says a lot of businesses she speaks to face a particularly tough trading environment.

    She says one retailer told her their December trading figures were the worst they've seen in 20 years.
