A telling off for a GP who sent a man home without examination ... only for him to die two days later

A telling off for a GP who sent a man home without examination ... only for him to die two days later

The man in his 70s was diagnosed with mild gastric discomfort when he went to an after hours clinic with vomiting and stomach cramps.

He died two days later from complications from a bowel obstruction.

Health and Disability Commissioner Anthony Hill says an abdominal examination is the expected clinical practice from a GP.

The report recommends an independent audit of the clinical notes and further training for the GP.
