Investigations are under way after Police shot a man in Whanganui early today

Patrol officers found a man acting suspiciously on Talbot street, just before four this morning.

He ran away, and Police say he then turned and assaulted officers who followed him - and attacked their dog.

After sponge rounds, a taser, and pepper spray had no effect on his behaviour, he was shot.

He's in a serious condition.
