Macaulay Culkin was originally cast in Eminem's 'Stan' video

'Chucky' actor Devon Sawa played the obsessive superfan in the iconic visual, but he admitted he wasn't the first choice for the role, with the rapper's team keen to land the 'Home Alone' star

He told Entertainment Tonight: "They went out to Macaulay Culkin first. I think that they wanted him, and he wasn't available, or didn't want to do it or whatever.

"Then Dre [who directed], who had just seen 'Final Destination' and was a fan, suggested [me]."

From there, the team were able to get in touch, and he ended up landing the memorable role.

He recalled: "There happened to be somebody in the casting office that knew somebody who was friends with me, and they called me that way... and it ended up working out pretty good.

"It's also one of the proudest things I've been a part of."

The video came out almost 25 years ago, and Devon can still remember the lyrics, which take the form of letters written by Stan to the famous rapper.

He said: "If it came on in my car or something like that, I would jam along to it. I'll tell you one thing, I know it better now than I did that day. Because I've heard it millions of times since."

He even wanted to recreated his iconic look - which saw him with short blonde hair in a white tank top - for his role on horror series 'Chucky', but it wasn't meant to be.

Devon admitted: "They bleached my hair for [Stan]. I pitched it on Chucky and [show creator] Don Mancini shut it down."

At the time of the music vode, Macaulay hadn't appeared on screen in six years, having starred in the likes of 'Getting Even With Dad, 'Richie Rich' and an episode of 'Fraser' in 1994.

His next roles wouldn't come until 2003, when he played Michael Alig in 'Party Monster', and Jason Towne in an episode of 'Will and Grace'.
