The south of the South Island's in for some snow overnight

The south of the South Island's in for some snow overnight

MetService says a front will move over early in the morning, bringing snow to inland Otago and northern Southland.

Heavy rain is also expected below the snow level for eastern Otago.

An orange heavy snow warning's in place for Southland northeast of Tapanui and inland Otago until 5 in the morning.

Expect five to 15 centermetres of snow to settle above 500 metres on top of what's already fallen.

Several centimetres of snow is expected on the Lindis and the Crown Range, Milford and Dunedin to Waitati Roads overnight.
