    Former Kiwis forward now New Zealand selector Tawera Nikau has weighed in on concerns around the length of the NRL league season

    A 27-round regular competition plus four weeks of play-offs is under scrutiny with several players unavailable through injury for the Pacific Championships series between New Zealand, Australia and Tonga starting next week.

    Nikau says it's an issue.



    The NRL's plans to expand to 20 teams is likely to bring about a reduction in rounds - a conference system has been mooted.
