Renee Zellweger has insisted the line between art and celebrity has "become increasingly ambiguous"

The 55-year-old actress has opened up about the way society has changed, and argued that previously people would become fame because of what they had achieved.

Speaking to Hugh Grant, 64, for British Vogue magazine, she said: "There used to be a line between celebrity and art."

Her 'Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy' co-star asked if she felt like she'd "been dumped in the same pot as people who perhaps just want to be famous" rather than an actor.

Renee replied: "The line has become increasingly ambiguous. And notorious and famous and known are now all the same thing.

"It used to be that you were known because you had done something that was worth knowing about."

Hugh insisted that if he was 18 again and going through university, he wouldn't want to become an actor now.

Renee said: "I wondered if I would too, because I'm not sure that the way that it works now, celebrity and all of that stuff, I don't know that that suits me."

The two friends also discussed the way society has changed, as Hugh bemoaned the way "local cinemas are shutting" and people aren't going out in the same way.

He added: "I can't bear it".

Renee revealed: "I miss that we used to congregate for different things. Everybody saw the same films because there were 10 in a six-month period.

"Everyone's going to see 'Star Wars' and we're all going to talk about it. Now it's all bespoke."

Her pal insisted he would happily turn the internet off to help "the world" rediscover itself, and he claimed everyone would be in a much better place.

He said: "If the plug to the internet was over there, I would pull it out and I know the world would be infinitely happier and better adjusted within six months."
