Morgan Wallen walked off the 'Saturday Night Live' stage because he was simply ready to leave

The 31-year-old country singer appeared on the long-running sketch comedy show in March alongside its actress host Mikey Madison, 26, performing two songs from his upcoming album 'I'm the Problem' -and his swift departure before the traditional end-of-show farewell caused a stir among fans and cast members

Breaking his silence on the controversy that erupted over the incident, Morgan told Caleb Pressley's online series 'Sundae Conversations' when asked if he was upset with the 'SNL' team before his abrupt exit: "No, no. I was just ready to go home. I'd been there all week."

During the interview, Caleb also joked about Morgan's ability to fix a TV, asking: "Could you fix a TV, if it was on SNL?"

Morgan responded: "I could change it for sure."

Shortly after his 'SNL' episode aired, Morgan posted an image to his Instagram Stories showing a private jet, along with the caption: "Get me to God's country."

Asked about the post during the interview with Caleb, Morgan smiled and said: "Yeah."

The episode featured performances of 'I'm the Problem' and 'Just in Case' - both included on Wallen's upcoming album, set for release on 16 May.

But as host Mikey thanked the cast and crew at the end of the show, Morgan was seen whispering something in her ear before walking off stage and past the camera, rather than staying for the group goodbyes.

Morgan later released merchandise referencing the phrase "Get me to God's country", appearing to embrace the attention surrounding the moment.

Kenan Thompson, 45, a longtime cast-member of the NBC show, responded in an interview with Entertainment Weekly when asked about the incident by saying: "I don't know what goes through people's minds when they decide to do stuff like that.

"I don't know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way."

According to People, Morgan had also been invited to appear in a pre-recorded sketch titled 'Big Dumb Line' but declined, with his role subsequently given to 34-year-old singer Joe Jonas.

A week later, 'SNL' returned with two sketches parodying Morgan's unexpected exit.
