Teenager arrested, police search for second person after fatal Ascot Vale stabbing

Police are seeking out witnesses and searching for a second person believed to be involved in the fatal stabbing of a man in Melbourne's north.

Police have made an arrest and are searching for a second person after a man was found fatally wounded in Melbourne's north.

The man, who is yet to be formally identified, was found by police with stab wounds at Ascot Vale about 3.45pm, on Maribyrnong and Union roads.

He was transported to hospital but later died.

Police alleged two people involved in the fatal stabbing fled on foot before the arrival of officers.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on Ascot Street about 4pm, and police have been patrolling the area searching for a second person.

One witness named Alice told the ABC the incident broke out between the three men in the middle of the road, causing traffic to stop.

"At first, I thought they were just joking around but then I realised they were fighting so I had to quickly run inside," she said.

"Then I saw the fight continued onto the road and they were just constantly kicking that guy.

"He was unarmed, he didn't have time to react or anything.

    "It happened so fast."

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
