The cost of keeping sentenced inmates behind bars, is topping the 200-thousand mark

The Corrections 2024/2025 annual report shows an average of 552-dollars a day was spent keeping sentenced prisoners in jail - totalling to 201-thousand 480-dollars a year.
It's about 40-thousand dollars more than in 2016.
Meanwhile remand inmates cost 414-dollars a day, while home detention costs reached 116-dollars a day, in the year to June 2025.
