The 5pm and 7pm convoys through Waioweka Gorge have been cancelled this evening - on the East Coast - with a forecast of possible heavy rain

The stretch of State Highway Two has re-opened for three convoys for essential each way, every day - with slip damage at multiple sites.

Heavy rain watches and warnings cover the North Island today and tomorrow - apart from the Masterton, Wellington, and New Plymouth areas.

NZTA says this evening's convoys won't go - and there'll be four more tomorrow before closing for the weekend.

State Highway 35 will also close from Lottin Point Road south, to Taurangakoau Bridge.
