Former All Blacks loose forward Liam Messam's welcoming the appointment of Dave Rennie as the team's new head coach

Rennie's been confirmed as Scott Robertson's successor - beating out Highlanders mentor Jamie Joseph for the job.

Messam was co-captain of the Chiefs side which Rennie coached to back-to-back Super Rugby crowns in 2012 and 13.

The 43-test veteran is rapt to see Rennie get the gig.



Rennie will will see out his commitments with Japanese club Kobe before returning home ahead of the All Blacks home matches in July.

His full coaching staff is set to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
