The driver of a tourist bus that crashed near Queenstown in January -- causing a girl and woman to lose limbs -- is appealing his conviction

The driver of a tourist bus that crashed near Queenstown in January -- causing a girl and woman to lose limbs -- is appealing his conviction

Chinese national Liang Fang appeared by video link at the Invercargill High Court today.

His lawyer told the court his conviction is out of proportion with the offending - as immigration authorities are requesting he leave the country.

Fang was driving the bus and trailer carrying 23 Chinese tourists, when it crashed at Wilson Bay on January 21.

He was sentenced in June to 200 hours of community work, disqualified from driving for nine months, and had to pay 9000 dollars to the two worst injured passengers.
