Lisa Carrington has become New Zealand's joint most successful Olympian

Lisa Carrington has become New Zealand's joint most successful Olympian

An hour after retaining her K1 200 title, the 32-year-old won gold in the K2 500 final with Caitlin Regal in Tokyo.

Carrington now has five Olympic medals, four gold and a bronze with the chance for two more medals at these Games.

She joins fellow kayaker Ian Ferguson as the only New Zealander to win four golds.

Tom Walsh has battled officials as much as competitors to post a 21.49 metre throw and qualify for the shot put final at the Tokyo Olympics.

After heaving two no-throws, the second of which was overturned, Walsh stepped up for his third and final attempt.

That was also ruled out, before a number of reviews deemed it legal.

Jacko Gill has also made tomorrow afternoon's final.

The New Zealand men's team sprint cyclists have finished seventh in Tokyo.

The women's team pursuit finished eighth.

The men race for bronze against Australia tonight.

Daniel Meech on Cinca has qualified in 30th and last spot for the showjumping final.

Apparently a number of horses were spooked by a life-size sumo wrestler positioned next to obstacle 10 on the 14-jump course.

Sailors Peter Burling and Blair Tuke have taken silver in the 49er, with Britain beating Germany by a bowsprit in the medal race to guarantee gold.

Josh Junior was fifth in the Finn.

Diver Anton Down-Jenkins has placed eighth in the three-metre springboard.

The United States are through to the men's basketball semifinals after beating Spain.

Jamaican Elaine Thompson-Herah has become the first woman to claim back-to-back 100-200 metre Olympic sprint titles after winning the 200 metres gold at Tokyo.

Gymnast Simone Biles has returned to the competitive arena to win her seventh Olympic medal in Tokyo.

The 24-year-old fought off a spatial awareness issue known as the "twisties" to take bronze on the women's beam.

Biles had not competed since withdrawing from the women's team final last week, citing a desire to protect her mental health.

All-rounder Amelia Kerr has opted out of the White Ferns' cricket tour of England to prioritise her mental health.

Four All Blacks have been released for the opening round of the Bunnings NPC.

Hoskins Sotutu will play his first match for Counties-Manukau on Friday, Taranaki get lock Tupou Vaa'i back to face Hawke's Bay while Wellington have the services of TJ Perenara and Asafo Aumua against Northland.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has again failed to report for English Premier League pre-season football training as speculation mounts that he will move to Manchester City.

He has three years left on his contract.
