Confusion at the Government's plans around quake-prone buildings

Confusion at the Government's plans around quake-prone buildings

The Government's bringing forward a review of rules for quake-prone buildings - and extending deadlines to fix buildings, by four years.

At the same time, the Government's put an end to a loan scheme to help strengthen quake-prone apartments.

Inner City Wellington Earthquake-Prone Buildings spokesperson Geraldine Murphy says the scheme was targeted and intended to help building owners.

She suggests it's pulled the rug out from a number of owners, who'd made commitments based on that scheme being available.
