A 20-year deal with Southland's Tiwai Aluminium Smelter could be good news for mum and dad investors

A 20-year deal with Southland's Tiwai Aluminium Smelter could be good news for mum and dad investors

The agreement signed by Meridian, Mercury, Contact Energy and New Zealand Aluminium Smelters agrees to make electricity available to the country during high demand.

It follows 18 months of negotiations.

JMI Wealth director Andrew Kelleher says it's very good for anyone with shares in electricity retailers.

He says they can now invest in new generation capacity with more confidence.
