A surfer has died in a suspected shark attack near Sydney's northern beaches

Emergency services were called to Long Reef Beach this morning following reports a man had suffered critical injuries.

He was pulled from the water, along with sections of his surfboard, and died at the scene.

Police believe he was bitten by a large shark, but the species has not yet been determined.
