Kapiti's Coastguard has been involved in two life-saving rescues in the space of 24 hours

Kapiti's Coastguard has been involved in two life-saving rescues in the space of 24 hours

A kayak carrying three young people wearing life-jackets flipped early this morning - a kilometre off the Waikanae estuary.

Two swam safely to shore, but a third was rescued and treated on Paraparaumu beach for swallowing a large amount of seawater.

Two swimmers were later caught in a rip off Waikanae, dragging them away from the shore.

A Waikanae boatie was called to retrieve one of them - and they too were treated, having swallowed a lot of water.
