Power is likely be restored tonight, and support's available for Horowhenua locals affected by Sunday's severe weather event

Power is likely be restored tonight, and support's available for Horowhenua locals affected by Sunday's severe weather event

Tokomaru is expected to have power later today, but Opiki, parts of Shannon and Manakau - in Horowhenua are still cut-off.

The District Council's urging locals to use water conservatively, as back-up generators remain in place.

They says the region's water systems and power-lines are still being brought back, but it's been difficult with the holiday period.

Waste pop-up sites have been set up, for people to dispose of spoiled food from the power-cuts.
