    Four people have died on our roads in the last 24 hours


    Police have just confirmed the latest fatality, following a truck and ute colliding on State Highway 27, north of Matamata about 6.30 this morning.

    Both of the vehicles went down a bank following the crash, with the truck catching alight.

    Earlier, one person died on State Highway 14 - between Whangarei and Dargaville - after a car and truck collided.

    And last night, two people died in a crash on State Highway 1, north of Ashburton.
