The Kaitiaki ferry from Wellington was supposed to arrive at 12.30 this afternoon, but couldn't berth because of gale-force winds.
It spent the afternoon circling around the Sounds waiting for the weather to die down.
Part of the Picton terminal has also been damaged by the unusually high winds.
