It took road spikes and armed police to stop a driver fleeing police in West Auckland this afternoon

They'd tried to stop the vehicle on Great North Rd just before 2 because the driver had left a petrol station without paying.

The vehicle was spiked on Forest Hill Rd in Henderson about 15 minutes later.

The driver is now in custody.

Charges was still being finalised, but the vehicle has previously been reported stolen.
