There's a range of reasons students are wagging school

There's a range of reasons students are wagging school

The Government's 40-million-dollar pre budget announcement to tackle school attendance issues, is being welcomed by teachers and youth organisations.

Truancy statistics show 40 percent of students aren't going to school regularly.

General manager of Christchurch youth organisation Te Ora Hou Otautahi, Jono Campbell says it's a very complex issue.

He says there are often things going on at home, and Covid has exacerbated the problem.

Campbell says some kids are leaving school because they feel they're worse off in the classroom than at home.
