Cyclists rode slowly down a Matakana road, north of Auckland yesterday, to protest a lack of options for bike riders in the area

It was to bring attention to the coastal cycle trail between Puhoi and Mangawhai which is only partially complete.

Coastal trail Fundraising Manager Meg Eriksen, says it was to highlight the danger of the road for cyclists and the inconvenience it causes to motorists.

She says cyclist deaths are much more common in the area than in other areas of Auckland.

Eriksen says it's like rolling a dice every time you ride on it.
