An Air New Zealand flight between Auckland and Blenheim had to be diverted to New Plymouth, today because of an electrical issue on board

Chief Safety and Risk Officer Nathan McGraw says flight NZ5509 landed safely about 12.30 this afternoon, shortly after the pilots noted an aircraft system indication during the flight.

Emergency services were on standby as a precaution.

The aircraft will return to service once it's been inspected.
