A Dunedin man's been charged over an alleged drunken snooze - while leaving his foot on his car's accelerator pedal

The ODT reports residents called police about 4am on Sunday after listening to a man revving his car for 15 minutes straight.

Sergeant Matt Lee says police found the 32-year-old slumped over his steering wheel with his eyes closed, and his foot firmly on the pedal.

He recorded a breath alcohol level of 471 micrograms per litre of breath - the legal limit is 250.
