Shawn Levy has promised the end of Stranger Things will be "as good as any TV series finale" he has ever seen

The ex ecutive producer has teased that not only will fans be satisfied by the way the Netflix drama ends after five seasons, but they'll be particularly pleased to know that the ongoing long triangle between Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer), Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) and Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) will finally be resolved.

Asked what fans should expect, Shawn told People magazine: "A finale that's as good as any TV series finale I've seen in my life, and a resolution to the whole Jancy Stancy controversy/triangle."

Shawn believes the key to the programme's success is the balance between "epic cinematic storytelling" and the everyday drama of the characters.

He said: "There's so much talk about the '80s and the monsters and the music, but I think the secret sauce is the fact that it's epic cinematic storytelling with very intimate character stories.

"It's the combination of the huge and the very small and personal that I think is the magic."

The 57-year-old filmmaker admitted shooting the final season of the programme had been full of mixed emotions.

He said: "I guess there was this umbrella of bittersweet that sort of was across the whole shoot because we knew how special this was.

"We knew that these connections are forever, but we knew it was coming to a close. And so that sort of smile with tears in your eyes, that feeling was very prevalent all year long."

Meanwhile, co-creator Ross Duffer revealed a few days ago that he and his brother, Matt Duffer, had completed production on the next three episodes of the fifth season and promised they would be "emotional".

Ross wrote on Instagram: "Chapters Five, Six and Seven: locked, mixed, scored, colored... Volume Two is DONE.

"Shock Jock" picks up moments after the end of "Sorcerer". Frank Darabont is back [as director], but he flexes very different muscles on this one than he did on "Turnbow Trap"- it's far darker, and far scarier.

"Escape from Camazotz" is Shawn Levy's return to the director's chair. It's the biggest episode of the three- and the performances make us cry every time we watch it.

"The Bridge"... we co-directed this one with Shawn. Don't want to say too much, but aside from the finale, it's probably the most emotional chapter of the season.

"It's gonna be a long six day wait for the finale...

    "Runtimes to come (sic)"

Shawn teased in the comments: "Get ready, Nerds[heart and upside down face emojis] (sic)"

Volume 1 of the final season, which consisted of four episodes, dropped on 26 November and will be followed by the next three on Christmas Day (25.12.25) in the US and the finale on New Year's Eve (31.12.25).
